Bonus March Speaker: Proposed Research on the Effects of pH changes on Clay Minerals, by Irene Shuk

by Cindy Schmidtlein, MSDC Vice President

Irene Shuk is currently a sophomore at George Washington University (GWU). She is currently undeclared but wishes to pursue a double major in both geology and environmental studies.

In taking a class with Dr. Richard Tollo, professor and geologist at GWU, she was first introduced to mineralogy and to MSDC. Irene’s research hopes to bring mineralogical insight into larger issues. In particular, she plans to focus her research on the effects of pH changes on clay minerals.

Irene is deeply grateful to MSDC for the opportunity to combine the world of mineralogy with her passion for the environment.
