Prez Says...
by Kenny Reynolds, MSDC President
Hello MSDC members and welcome to June 2024!
This year is flying by and it's hard to believe our two month break is coming up in July and August. We take these two months off so there won't be any meetings for these months.
I'm looking forward to the summer months and can't wait to do some mineral collecting. Unfortunately, it seems I do most my mineral collecting "with the silver pick," but still enjoy field collecting. In the summer months I like my trips to Franklin and Ogdensburg, New Jersey where it's still possible to collect minerals on the dumps at the Franklin mineral museum and the Sterling Hill mining museum.
This summer I want to get back in Chester county Pennsylvania and do some field collecting at the old Phoenixville mining dumps. Craig Moore and I have talked about a trip up there to collect pyromorphite, cerussite, anglesite, galena, and even possibly some wulfenite.
Recently one of the finest Pyromorphite and wulfenite specimens came up for auction on one of my friend's eBay site. Silly me thought maybe no one would notice or have interest in an Old Wheatly specimen but I was so wrong! I've included a couple of photos of the specimen for your enjoyment, as well as a screenshot from the eBay listing.
I hope to see everyone on our zoom meeting this month which will be on June 5th at 7:30 pm. Please join us a little early around 7:15 so we can chat a little.
