Prez Says...
by Kenny Reynolds, MSDC President
Hello MSDC members; welcome to March!
I hope everyone had a wonderful February, and are ready to rock into March!
It will be a busy month for mineral shows and I am really looking forward to it.
I wanted to shout out a special thanks to Thomas Hale for his fantastic presentation last month! It was really thought-provoking to say the least. With the world moving so quickly with technology that demands more and more mining and larger sources of minerals, it makes me wonder where are all these minerals going to come from? Who will control these resources? What new conflicts will arise do to the increased need for these resources? Lots of interesting questions arise and I’m glad to have someone like Thomas to keep us informed. Please keep up the good work!
For anyone that missed Thomas’s Presentation and would like to see it you can visit MSDC's YouTube channel where many of our MSDC presentations are available. To follow more of Thomas Hale be sure to visit friendsofmineralogyvirginia.org.
Ken Rock, our Mineral Minutes editor, has updated our club's flier and I am looking forward to handing them out at the upcoming mineral show at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Since MSDC doesn’t have a show and we’re still meeting only on zoom, we really depend on increasing our membership to be able to cover our operating costs and continue with our annual gift to the Smithsonian Department of Mineral Sciences and the scholarship we provide to a promising geology student at George Washington University in DC.
If you haven’t already sent in your dues, please do so by either going to our online link to join or renew, or send John Weidner, MSDC's Treasurer a check the old fashioned way!
I look forward to seeing all of you March 1st for our club meeting.
