Prez Says...
by Kenny Reynolds, MSDC President
Hello MSDC members. Welcome to May 2024. I want to thank our Board of Directors for a very successful start to the year.
Vice President Cindy Schmidtlein has managed to arrange a fantastic array of speakers, most recently Dr. Leigh Broadhurst who spoke to us about serpentinite; the Smithsonian’s Dr. Mike Wise who talked to us about pegmatites, his favorite rocks; and Thomas Hale who spoke to us about minerals from Greenland. All of these presentations can be seen on MSDC’s YouTube channel thanks to our Co-webmaster Betty Thompson.
I can't thank Secretary Andy Thompson enough for his help running this club, He is always on top of things from answering club emails to sending out reminders. He does so much of the behind-the-scenes help needed for our club to run smoothly.
Editor Ken Rock has done so much for our club through his work on our "Mineral Minutes" newsletter. He also prepared a business card for MSDC that provides a brief description of who we are and our focus, and includes QR codes that people can scan to gain instant access to our website, our YouTube channel, and our club membership form which makes joining super easy!
Treasurer John Weidner has done a great job keeping our clubs finances straight. He also deals with all the members’ dues and makes sure our club has the finances to operate now as well as into the future.
I also want to thank our directors Craig Moore, Brian Silver, and Dan Teich. Thank you for serving!
It's not too early to start thinking about our future President and Vice President because Cindy’s and my term will be ending this year. If you enjoy being a member of our club, please consider joining the board in a leadership position. You will see that it is both fun and rewarding.
Until then, we have great lineup of presentations that I can't wait to see!
Please join us May 1st at 7:30 via Zoom for our next meeting. Hope to see you there.
