Prez Says...

by Kenny Reynolds, MSDC President

Hello MSDC members – welcome to September!

I hope all of you had a nice summer break. My rock-related trip during the summer break included a trip to Franklin, New Jersey for their "swap at the pond." This was the second year for this event held on July 29th and it was a blast. Unfortunately, the turnout was not as great as I had expected, mostly because of the chance of rain and sweltering temperatures in the 90s, but still a good event nonetheless!

Heather and I also took my grandkids to Ocean City, Maryland for our annual summer beach trip. It's really fun to see how much the kids have grown and the beach trip photos are a good way to track their changes. Below is a picture of the three of them frolicking In the surf. We love it so much we've already set plans for next year.

We also held our MSDC picnic over the summer break. Thank you all for attending the picnic, it was truly a fantastic afternoon and hopefully we can make this an annual event! A special thank you to Ken & Kathy Hrechka for offering their beautiful home for our picnic location.

One of my favorite memories of the picnic was spending time with Angelo Cicolani who was MSDC's President more than 50 years ago (1972, 1973, and 1978). He delighted all of us with stories of the past And it was certainly a pleasure meeting him.

I am looking forward to getting back together as we return to our regular meeting time in September. We will be continuing our meetings via Zoom because we still are unsure about the possibility of returning to the  Smithsonian for our meetings.

Our speaker for September is Tim Rose, who is also our sponsor at the Smithsonian. We hope that he will be able to give us some insight on returning to in-person meetings.

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody so please don't miss our September 6th meeting it should be a great presentation!!
