Quartz sandstone concretion, Fountainbleau, France. 30 million years old. Fontainebleau's sand is famous for its flawlessness and delicacy since the 17th century. These concretions can be found in natural history museums around the world. A particularly well-preserved example of a sandstone concretion is on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. Photo is from the Yale Peabody Museum.
