Wildacres – a Great Opportunity for Learning and Fun

by Betty Thompson, MSDC Co-webmaster

Each year, the Eastern Federation offers a great “learning vacation” (my words) known as Wildacres, at a retreat atop the Blue Ridge Parkway north of Asheville, North Carolina. $475 gives you a week of classes in various facets of the earth sciences, lectures, delightful companions, and room and board in a gorgeous mountain-top setting near Little Switzerland, NC.  You can register now for this year’s session May 13-19. Don’t wait too long, the 2023 session was sold out.

You can find more info, the registration form, and plenty of photos from past sessions by clicking here.

Indulge your passion for minerals, gems, jewelry, and craft. Join entry and intermediate level short classes. Enjoy programs from our great Speakers-in-Residence. Form new friendships and deepen old ones.

Wildacres classes this year will include faceting (with Bernie Emery of the Baltimore club), beading, intarsia, chainmaille, Viking knit, soapstone carving, geology, wire wrapping, and silver smithing.  The speaker-in-residence will be multi-faceted Mike Colella, a long-time member of the Montgomery County club, GLMSDC.

What a great opportunity to try something fun and different in the hills of North Carolina!
